Loraine DeBonis, Editor-in-Chief
Loraine DeBonis has been immersed in the payments industry for nearly a decade. As Paybefore’s Editor-in-Chief, she is responsible for understanding the most important issues affecting the industry and delivering actionable content across all of Paybefore’s media platforms: Pay Magazine, Pay News, Pay Op-Ed, Pay Week, Pay Magazine, Pay Gov and Pay Connect buyer’s guide. She is a frequent moderator at industry events and chairs the judging panels for the annual Pay Awards and Pay Awards Europe industry competitions. Since joining Paybefore in 2007, DeBonis has developed relationships with industry stakeholders worldwide. Much of her work has focused on understanding trends in reaching the unbanked segment as well as emerging international markets, POS technology and the evolving mobile channel.
Loraine has been an editor and writer for national magazines and newsletters for 16 years, focusing specifically on prepaid cards, alternative payments and mobile commerce for the past nine. Prior to joining Paybefore, Loraine covered the prepaid card industry for SourceMedia in Chicago. Her work has appeared in Prepaid Trends and American Banker. Loraine received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English, magna cum laude, from Xavier University in Cincinnati. She lives in Tennessee with her husband Alex, an English professor, and their four children.
Danielle Piro, Business Development Manager
Danielle works with advertisers to create sponsorship packages that maximize their exposure. Piro has a wealth of experience in digital media sales, most recently serving as a senior account executive at Netted by The Webbys, which reports on the best sites, apps and connected products. She also has served in senior roles at ClickZ Group and Shecky’s Media. Piro holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Manhattan College and is based in New York City.
Bill Grabarek, Senior Editor
Bill Grabarek is responsible for writing news and feature stories for Paybefore’s publications. He is a seasoned editor, writer and manager with nearly 20 years of experience in print and online newspaper and trade publications, including Credit & Collections Risk, ISO&Agent and AccountingWEB. He cut his teeth at a daily newspaper in Central Illinois and was a reporter and regional editor for a suite of newspapers covering the Chicago suburbs.
Bill graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in English with an emphasis on professional writing. He is based in Michigan.
Thad Rueter, Senior Editor
Thad Rueter brings nearly 20 years of professional reporting and editing experience to his position as senior editor at Paybefore. He worked for newspapers in the Chicago area and Florida—where he had a minor but fun role covering the 2000 presidential recount—before switching to trade publications more than a decade ago. He covered global payments and financial technology for Source Media, and then everything e-commerce for Internet Retailer, before rejoining former colleagues at Paybefore. Among his tasks at Paybefore is to bring that e-commerce expertise to his payments reporting. Thad is based in Chicago.
Adam Perrotta, Associate Editor
Adam Perrotta is responsible for daily news as well as other features for Paybefore, including Innovators’ Spotlight and People on the Move. Adam has been in publishing for six years. He served as a digital editor and writer for Nielsen in New York City and, most recently, was a writer and editor for MYOO.com, an adventure Webzine in California.
Adam has a masters’ degree in professional writing from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and a bachelor of arts in economics from Syracuse University. He is based in Los Angeles, California.
Robin C. Mason, Production Editor
Robin Mason handles editing, marketing and advertising fulfillment. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Colby College and has a background in publishing and marketing. Robin has written articles for Genealogy Ink, North Bridge, New England Ancestors, The Boston Parents’ Paper, Cobblestone, Ancestry Magazine and CD Review. She lives in Massachusetts.
