Cardholders with Univision MasterCard Prepaid Cards will have unlimited surcharge-free access to 35,000 ATMs in the U.S. and Puerto Rico now that the Spanish-language media company has entered into an agreement with Allpoint Network, a Cardtronics, Inc. affiliate. “We are thrilled to partner with Allpoint Network to help our cardholders save money with the most convenient surcharge-free ATM network,” said Scott Scovel, vice president of Univision’s Prepaid Financial Services. “Allpoint was a natural partner, given our objective to help Univision cardholders manage their money. The presence of Allpoint ATMs at many retailers that Hispanics frequent will provide a valuable and convenient benefit to our cardholders.” The Allpoint Network, which earlier this year announced a partnership with MasterCard (Paybefore Sept. 30, 2010), is the largest surcharge-free network in the U.S. and has ATMs in popular retail chains such as 7-Eleven, Target and Costco. Surcharge-free networks may be on the way to becoming a standard feature for GPR cards as providers seek to make their programs more competitive and user friendly (Paybefore October 2010). While ATM fee income may decline as a result of adding a surcharge-free ATM network to its program, Univision’s Scovel tells Paybefore that the company strives to provide its customers with the best possible prepaid product. “We believe that is the best way to both manage our business and meet the needs of the Hispanic community,” he says.
